FORMER pupils of a Darlington grammar school have been invited to an exhibition looking the history of the site.
The Centre for Local Studies, at Crown Street Library, is hosting an exhibition of items from the Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, now the sixth form college, until the end of the month. (April)
Displays include photographs of the building and past pupils, brochures of school events and year books. The centre also has the Grammar School admission registers on microfilm for 1870-1945, and football and cricket team photographs of pupils dating back to 1886.
The Local Studies Centre is collecting memories of the school from former pupils and staff to celebrate the 450th anniversary of the granting of the Charter to the school by Queen Elizabeth I.
It is also hoped people can help identify the children in a 1947 school photograph, which shows all 713 pupils at the school.
Many names have already been collected, but staff are hoping visitors will be able to help identify more pupils.
