About 50 people including a three-month-old baby and pensioners are marooned in their homes by huge snowdrifts above Allerton as the snow continues to bring chaos to the district.

One of the residents in Long Lane at Upper Green says the only way out is to walk across fields down into Allerton village but it would take a fit person at least 40 minutes to make the trip through what he described as treacherous conditions.

"It's still snowing here hard. We are completely marooned in our homes.
"We've been asking for help to get out but the council only says it has us logged and will get to us when they can - we've had no sign of any help yet. Our situation is serious."

Mother-of-three Sarah Petty who also lives there told the Telegraph & Argus: "We have been stuck since Friday night. We are fast running out of coal and wood for our fires as there are no gas mains."

Meanwhile a wall of snow is also blocking in residents from about 14 homes in Back Lane, Stanbury.
Elsewhere, Chapel Lane in Queensbury is still blocked by four feet of snow along its length and at the junction with New Park Road.

Wintry weather is still causing travel disruption today, and two schools have reported full or partial closures.

And some communities say they are still cut off five days after the snow started.
Long delays are being reported on the M62, because of the snow and an earlier accident.
There are delays of up to 50 minutes and stop-start traffic on the M62 eastbound from junction 22 (Rishworth Moor) to junction 27 (Gildersome).
Glenn Lee Lane in Keighley is also closed because of the snow.
Carlton Bolling College is partially closed. Areas of the school site remain unsafe because of the bad weather conditions. School will be open from the normal start time for all staff and students in years nine, 10, 11,12 and 13 only.
Lees Primary School remains closed because there is no heating. New boilers are being fitted over the Easter holiday and the school is set to reopen on Monday April 15.

One mum with three children at Long Lane, Allerton, said today they were fast running out of coal and wood for our fires as no gas mains . Sarah Petty said her five year old  old has had to walk in freezing conditions across fields to get to school.
