A Keighley man has won recognition at an awards ceremony for rolling up his sleeves to help save lives.

Peter West, pictured with Jayne Snell, was honoured by NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) for making more than 75 blood donations.

An NHSBT spokesman said: “As each single donation can save up to three lives, Mr West may have helped save more than 225 patients in local hospitals.”

The 57-year-old, who has worked at pram manufacturer Silver Cross for 40 years, was first inspired to give blood when his mother’s life was saved by a transfusion when he was a child.

Mr West was presented with a commemorative crystal award by blood recipient Jayne Snell, during a ceremony in Harrogate.
