The glory days of the working men’s club, made famous by TV comedy Phoenix Nights, will soon return to Keighley.

Lee Lard, the UKs number one Peter Kay tribute act, performs “Back to the Phoenix Club” at the Octagon on Easter Sunday, and it could be the first of many similar events.

The event has been organised by owner of the Octagon John Pennington and DJ Tony Sykes, who want to bring entertainment to Sandbeds on the usually quiet Sunday afternoons.

Mr Sykes, also compere for the evening, said: “It used to be people would go to the working men’s club on a Sunday afternoon, have a few drinks and have a few laughs. We are trying to re-create that idea of going out on a Sunday afternoon. You get three to four hours of entertainment for just a few pounds. There used to be loads of clubs with cabaret on a Sunday, we want to bring that back.”

Doors open at 1pm and the event runs from 2-5pm and costs £5 including a pint.
