Bradford 10k Run and the Reflections festival cancelled due to snow
2:31pm Friday 22nd March 2013 in News
The unseasonal weather has forced the cancellation of a series of weekend events across the district.
Bradford Council has postponed the Reflections creative arts festival event scheduled for tomorrow, where Mind the Gap were due to perform Irresistible as the headlining event.
The blanket of white that has descended on the City Park in central Bradford, and forecast of freezing conditions overnight, means it will not be safe for audiences and participants.
Mind the Gap are already working closely with Bradford Council to set a new date to ensure that Irresistible comes to City Park in the near future, and that local people will get to see this atmospheric show.
Meanwhile, the Epilepsy Action Bradford 10k, due to take place on Sunday has also fallen victim to the weather.
Katie Stocks, fundraising events officer at Epilepsy Action, said: “After monitoring the weather closely, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this event due to the dropping temperature and snowy weather conditions. We are very disappointed the run will not go ahead but the safety of our runners, volunteers and spectators must be our first priority.
“The race will now provisionally take place on Sunday, April 28 2013. Runners will be notified and we will confirm the new date shortly. Places will automatically be carried over to the new date. Runners who are unable to take part on this date will be offered a refund or can transfer their place to next year’s event.
“We apologise for the inconvenience this postponement may cause.”
Another weekend running event to be hit by the snow is Age UK’s Harewood House Wrap Up & Run 10k event, scheduled for Sunday.
Paul Farthing, Director of Fundraising at Age UK, said: “We are really disappointed to have to cancel this weekend’s event, however the safety of participants is absolutely paramount. We are aiming to reschedule the race for next month and we will announce the new date early next week. We are sorry for any disappointment caused and we really appreciate the understanding and cooperation of participants.”
