Children at Lady Lane Park School, Bingley, had their timbers shivered when they found a massive pirate galleon miraculously “afloat” in the gym.

Headteacher Gill Wilson had secretly organised the sea-faring experience with the help of teachers and assistants as a special treat for pupils before the Easter break.

“We worked over the weekend to make sure the scene was set for a complete surprise.

“The children were told to come in dressed as pirates – but didn’t know what was hidden in the gym,” she said.

Now they have embarked on a week-long Treasure Island activity week, seeking out adventure on the seven seas. As well as the galleon to explore, the gym features a deserted island and lots of treasure to investigate.

And throughout the week the children will be enjoying many aspects of Pirate life; making maps, flags, parrots and each day a pirate Captain and first mate will be chosen from one class.
