Six new credit unions planned for Keighley
8:00am Wednesday 20th March 2013 in News
Up to six new credit unions will be set up this spring on Keighley housing estates.
The unions, which offer savings and cheap loans, will be at community locations in Bracken Bank and Braithwaite.
They are part of efforts by councillors to help people cope with living on low incomes.
The latest initiative is a drop-in advice session next Tuesday (March 26) from 10am-3pm in the Airedale shopping centre.
People worried about money, debts or fuel bills can find free support at stalls run by a range of organisations.
The event, between Greggs and Costa Coffee, is being co-ordinated by Jan Smithies who represents Keighley West Ward on Bradford Council.
Coun Smithies has been working for several months to set up Keighley branches of the long-established Bradford Credit Union.
