Can you help to move historic records in Keighley

Amateur historians in Keighley are appealing for public help to rescue priceless documents chronicling the town's past.

They want people to help them move more than 1,000 books, ledgers and artefacts from the town hall basement to a safer location.

Keighley and District Local History Society wants to move the archives – which date from the 1870s onwards and concern Keighley Borough Council, which was disbanded in 1974, and Keighley Corporation.

They include village records, council minutes, school and planning files, maps, rate books, ballot boxes and marriage records.

A History Society spokesman said: “These records relate to a period of great change in Keighley”

The transfer is planned for this Saturday morning. Anyone who can help should contact Dan Moorhouse on 07974 374901.
