Brand new play area for Baildon after £52,000 grant to parish council

Children will soon have a brand new play area after a £52,000 grant to Baildon Parish Council.
The Council has landed the money from WREN, a not-for-profit business that helps benefit the lives of people who live close to landfill sites.
Chairman of the Council’s Health and Youth Committee Chris Flecknoe said: “Many people in Baildon have told us they want to see our playgrounds improved. As a result, we have been working closely with Bradford Council to do something about the play areas which most need upgrading.
“We identified the current play equipment at Southcliffe Drive is in the worst state of repair of all our village playgrounds – and this play area is situated in a neighbourhood where many young families live.”
Coun Flecknoe said the Parish Council had worked closely with Bradford Council, Incommunities and Baildon Community Link to get the best possible value for money and design, saying: “Local children and their parents came along to a fun day last August to show their support for the project and to indicate their preferences as to design and equipment.”
The Parish Council says work on upgrading the play area will start in “the near future”.
Chairman Councillor Joe Ashton said: “The application for further funding is an excellent example of what can be achieved through partnership working. The Parish Council initiated the project with an allocation of £14,000, but that was just the beginning.”
Coun Ashton said Bradford councillors from Baildon had secured £12,000 for the project and worked with Council officers to get the grant.
He added: “We have also been able to undertake a smaller project at Dewhirst Road, where Parish Council funding of £6,000 is paying for the installation of a new double swing unit. We will now turn our attention to considering other playground improvements.”
An opening ceremony will be held when Southcliffe Drive playground is finished.
