Kirklees health campaign is to split into two

A group fighting changes to the National Health Service in north Kirklees has enlisted so many volunteers it is splitting in two.

The group formed after Batley and Spen MP Mike Wood (Lab) held a meeting to protest at what he labelled as the “privatisation” of the NHS.

It is breaking into two groups, with one negotiating with GPs and the other taking the campaign out on to the streets to gather support.

Mr Wood said ‘privatisation’ of the NHS was worrying. But after the group formed last month, Chris Dowse, of NHS North Kirklees Clinical Commiss-ioning Group, said: “We know people are concerned about what they see as privatisation of the NHS, but we have to work within a legal framework which requires us to put some services out to tender and ensure best value for money.”
