Display boost in Bloom efforts
East Morton Primary School will look a lot more colourful this spring thanks to a popular Christmas light display.
Each December John Crowther, 67, festoons his Green End Road house with Christmas lights, and invites the community to come and marvel at the display and make a small donation. The money then goes to help the following year’s Morton In Bloom efforts.
This past Christmas’ lights raised more than double the previous year – £265, and Mr Crowther used the money to buy planting baskets for the railings at the school.
They were installed with the help of pupils, and will help beautify the village before the In Bloom judges arrive on April 8 for their spring visit.
The village has been awarded two silver gilts and a silver award in previous contests. Mr Crowther said: “This time we’re hoping for gold. These flowers certainly won’t hurt those efforts.”
