Great Horton bag-snatch man is spared jail for Little Germany attack

A teenager has been spared custody for snatching a Bradford Council manager’s bag as she walked to work near the city centre.

Jamie Jefferson, 19, dragged Anne-Marie Taylor along Burnett Street, Little Germany, as she clung on to her bag on the afternoon of August 8 last year, Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday.

Jefferson, of Southmere Oval, Great Horton, Bradford, grabbed the bag from Miss Taylor but he was chased by passers-by who got it back for her.

Jefferson, who pleaded guilty to robbery, ran off but was spotted shinning up a drainpipe into his sister’s flat where he was living, prosecutor Richard Davies said.

Jefferson had seven previous convictions for 16 offences, the court was told.

His barrister, Yunus Valli, said Jefferson did not assault Miss Taylor and she was uninjured, although very angry.

His family was in court to support him.

Jefferson was sentenced to 22 months in a young offender institution, suspended for two years, with 180 hours of unpaid work.
