Tributes are paid to former landlord of Haworth pub

A friend of a former Haworth pub landlord who died this month has paid tribute to the massive contribution he made to charity.

Terry Barnes was landlord of the Kings Arms from 1976 to 1991. His funeral was held at Haworth Parish Church last Thursday.

Kenneth Turner, who served with Mr Barnes (pictured) on the governing board of the Licensed Victuallers National Homes charity, said: “We regularly travelled to the meetings each month in Denham, Buckinghamshire.

“Terry would start out very early and travel by train to King's Cross, then on to the retirement village returning home later the same day. He was a great supporter and help to the residents of the charity's estate in Cullingworth, raising funds for summer trips, essential needs and Christmas parties as well as keeping a keen eye on repairs.

“He and his late wife Elsie were members of the charity's Yorkshire committee.

“This was all in addition to running a The two of them raised many thousands of pounds.”
