Snow causes disruption on Bradford roads this morning

A covering of snow has brought some disruption to roads around the Bradford district this morning.

There were no reports of any school closures as of 7am, but there were some issues for motorists and commuters.

The A658 Pool Bank New Road Westbound was reported to be blocked, with queueing traffic due to ice and snow between A659 Arthington Lane and Old Pool Bank. The road up the hill towards the airport only is affected.

Flights at Leeds Bradford Airport have been suspended because of the poor weather conditions and passengers are advised to contact their airline or tour operator before arriving at the airport.

An accident has also partially blocked Woodhall Road in Calverley.

A mix of bad weather and engineering works also led to misery for the area’s rail commuters this morning.

Trains on the Leeds to Skipton line started and terminated at Keighley for much of the rush hour due to engineering works further down the line over-running.

And snow caused the late running or cancellation of several services on the Ilkley/Bradford line and the Leeds/Bradford line, and led to the Leeds/Manchester Victoria train to terminate at Bradford Interchange.

The north of England and Scotland are forecast to see up to eight inches of snow build up between tonight and Wednesday morning, with temperatures dropping as low as minus 15C (5F) overnight.

The Met Office has issued a yellow severe weather warning urging those in the regions likely to be affected by snow to be aware.

In England, the Pennines and the Lake District are expected to be hit hardest.

if 2 snowflakes fall in an hour then it would appear its time to panic nowadays. what a pathetic bunch of drivers we must have if a few flakes cause "chaos".
if you have snow and ice i can see it affecting roads like pool bank, and in fairness it must have been icy for the LBA to close, its usualy the last one working.
8" expected? we'll see soon enough but i bet schools are thinking of closing "just in case" instead of getting on with it.

I love reading comments like those from John Hem... typically the older folk come out with ...why don't they just get on with it? we used to do it in the 1950's blah blah...the same rubbish falls from the mealy mouths of politicians re: school closures. The same politicians i might add who contributed towards the latigeous age in which we live..back in the 50's John, children couldn't sue their school for falling over on their playground...School Heads have to jump through hoops and wade through bureaucratic red tape on a daily basis...who do the parents immediately want to sue if the school bus taking their kids to school crashes in the snow because the evil school 'forced' their kids into school in terrible weather..its a no win situation whichever way you look at it...back in the 1950's John we did just have to 'get on with it' we also had to endure beatings from teachers in school, persecution for having disabilities, being gay, or indeed anything other than 'the norm' whatever that is.., slapped round the head for being dyslexic, being forced to write with your right hand if you were left handed, and endure cruel teachers who stunk of cigarette smoke from the staff room.. things move on ..it doesn't always suit everyone.
