Rookwood Nursing Home at Heaton to close
A care home looking after people with eating disorders and mental health problems is due to close within the next eight weeks, it has been revealed.
Rookwood Nursing Home in Victor Road, Heaton, Bradford, is reportedly closing its doors because of lack of demand for spaces.
It has capacity for 20 beds, but it is understood only a dozen people are staying there at the moment.
A spokesman for the home said: “Over recent months the number of people we support there has declined, and it is no longer possible to keep the home open.
“Our priority is the health and wellbeing of the people we support, their families and our dedicated staff. We will be working closely with the individuals we support, their families, the local authority and all agencies to help find alternative homes for people within a reasonable distance and with as little disruption as possible.
“We will be working with our staff to do everything we can to help them find alternative employment, including where appropriate at other European Care locations nearby.”
A spokesman for NHS Airedale, Bradford and Leeds said: “All our patients have been reviewed and we are working with them, their relatives, the home and the Council to finalise suitable alternative arrangements.” Janice Simpson, Bradford Council's strategic director for adult and community services, said: “The owners of Rookwood have informed us of their intention to close the home and are actively working with us to manage the process. “All residents, relatives and staff have been consulted.
“Some people will move to their sister home and others have been reviewed and are now able to move into more independent living because of the care they have received while at Rookwood.”
