Dog mess initiatives ‘may be followed’

Oxenhope may need to follow in the footsteps of other parishes which are stepping up the fight against irresponsible dog owners.

Councillor Penny Cusdin drew her parish council colleagues’ attention to initiatives in Silsden and Cross Hills & Glusburn.

She emphasised that local people need to be able to quickly and easily find out who to contact if they see instances of dog-fouling and want the mess cleaned up.

She said the parish council could facilitate the setting-up of a community group to tackle this problem, if enough residents express an interest.

A member of the public present at Wednesday’s Oxenhope Parish Council meeting said dog-fouling was a now a particular issue in Station Road and Yate Lane.

“For the most part it hasn’t been too bad here, but it’s got worse since the beginning of this year,” she said.
