Top literary names to judge Brontë Society Literary Competition

Entries in this year's Brontë Society Literary Competition will be judged by a celebrity line-up.

A total of £2,550 is on offer to winners in the poetry, short story and illustration categories.

They will be judged by Simon Armitage, novelist Dame Margaret Drabble and artist Victoria Brookland respectively.

Each category has prizes of £500, £250 and £100.

The short story category asks entrants to compose a new story around a minor character from one of the famous Brontë novels.

The poetry category asks them to create a poem in any style, offering a new perspective on one of the novels. The illustration category, which is new, asks for illustrations of up to four scenes from one of the Brontë novels.

The deadline for entries is January 31 next year. More details from bronte.org.uk.
