Saturday matinees to be shown on big screen in City Park Saturday matinees to be shown on big screen in City Park

Saturday film matinees are returning to Bradford’s City Park in the run-up to the city’s film festival.

Free screenings of family films on the Big Screen will begin on March 30, with classic 1980s adventure Back to the Future – and film fans will have chance to get up close to a replica of the movie’s DeLorean car.

Other films screened over the six Saturday sessions, organised by Bradford’s City of Film team, include Toy Story and Aladdin.

David Wilson, director of Bradford City of Film, said: “This is a great opportunity for people to watch films in the stunning surroundings of Bradford’s City Park. We’re encouraging people to bring the family and dress up in costume in tribute to their favourite characters.”

Mr Wilson said the free cinema screenings will go ahead whatever the weather. The schedule is: Saturday, March 30, 10am to noon - Back to the Future (PG) starring Michael J Fox as teenager Marty McFly who travels 30 years into the past.

Saturday, April 6, 10am to 11.30am - Madagascar 3 (U), the comical journey of Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Gloria the Hippo and Melman the Giraffe as they embark on an adventure.

Saturday, April 13, 10am to 11:30am - Tinkerbell & the Secret of the Wings (U), in which Tinkerbell meets Periwinkle and, together with friends, they venture in to the woods to find the secret of fairy wings.

Saturday, April 20 10am to 11.30am - Aladdin (U). Street urchin Aladdin accidentally meets Princess Jasmine. They fall in love, but she can only marry a prince.

Saturday, April 27 10am to 11.30am - Beauty and the Beast (U). When the beast captures Belle’s father she offers herself to him.

Saturday, May 4 10am to 11.30am - Toy Story (U). Woody, a cowboy doll, feels threatened and jealous when a new spaceman toy, Buzz Lightyear, supplants him.

Are you for real? There's 4 cinemas in the city centre - Pictureville, Cineworld, Cubby Broccoli, and Imax.

Shame the Odeon/New Victoria not ready yet and people could sit in comfort and watch these films.

As it is day time why not use the Alhambra or St. George's.

Fair point. I was just thinking about the Odeon sat in the background of the screen.

I do however wonder who IS actually paying for these 'free screenings' to take place?

They will need to pay the owners of the Movies in order to show the film to the public.
Your DVD is for your private home viewing only.

Can we have some George Orwell?. The kids would love Animal Farm although they may confuse 1984 with a documentary
