Trading Standards seize cigarettes in Keighley
6:06pm Wednesday 13th March 2013 in News
More than 2,000 packets of illegal cigarettes were seized after Trading Standards raided a shop.
During Tuesday morning’s raid they found a mix of counterfeit and illicit tobacco both underneath the till and spread out throughout the store, which Trading Standards has identified as just a small shop in Keighley.
They also found three packets of illegal hand-rolling tobacco.
The raid followed a tip-off from the public.
Many of the cigarette packets were foreign with no duty paid, and lacked the legally-required health warning stickers.
A spokesman for Trading Standards said: “We are pleased we managed to recover a significant amount of goods. The seizure is part of our continuing effort to prevent small retailers from selling illegal cigarettes, which certainly don’t do anything to encourage people to stop smoking.”
