Driver pulled out and hit police officer's car
8:00am Wednesday 13th March 2013 in News
An off-duty police officer driving home through the Yorkshire Dales had his car seriously damaged by a driver from Bradford pulling out of a side junction, Skipton magistrates heard.
Kyle Dane Whitaker, 26, of Poplarwood Gardens, Eccleshill, Bradford, pulled out of the junction onto the A65 at Ingleton on January 2, hitting the officer’s BMW, causing severe damage to its nearside, the court was told.
The officer’s passenger had to be helped out of the car because of the damage, and Whitaker’s Vauxhall Astra also sustained damage to its front and front nearside.
The officer, and others, reported seeing the Astra pull out of the junction onto the A65 without stopping, the court heard.
Whitaker was charged with driving without due care and attention, failing to produce a driving licence and MOT certificate, and using a car without third party insurance.
Magistrates found the case against Whitaker proved in his absence after he failed to appear in court.
His case was adjourned until Friday, April 5, for him to appear for sentencing.
