Low Moor station bid set to be decided

A bid to build a badly-needed new railway station in Bradford will be decided within weeks, the Government said yesterday.

Ministers will unveil the winners of a contest to grab a slice of a £20m New Stations Fund – with Low Moor station among 14 applications in the running. As few as five or six bids are likely to be successful, but local transport chiefs are confident they have a good chance of approval.

Councillor James Lewis, Metro’s Chairman, said: “Low Moor Rail Station is a much-needed addition to West Yorkshire's local rail network.

It has a strong business case and will be largely funded locally, as the social, economic and regeneration benefits of the station are widely recognised.

A successful bid to the New Stations Fund will secure all the funding we need to complete the detailed design, appoint contractors and begin construction in December 2014.”
