Bid for cash for Cowling sports pitch

A parish council near Keighley looks set to bid for £30,000 in funding to revitalise a sports pitch.
Cowling Parish Council recently instructed its parish clerk, Andrew Mallinson, to make an application to Sport England for the pitch at Cowling Recreation Ground..
“This funding from Sport England is part of the Olympic legacy,” said Mr Mallinson. “Organisations will be making applications for £10,000 to £50,000 to create a new pitch or revitalise what they’ve got.”
In Cowling’s case, he said the parish council would be choosing the latter option.
“The football pitch in the middle of the Cowling Recreation Ground on a quite a slope and the land gets very boggy,” said Mr Mallinson. “With this application, we’ll be looking at drainage issues.”
He added that funding would also allow consideration to be given to moving the pitch to a more level area. The project could cost around £30,000.
The next round of Sport England funding starts on June 10 and closes on August 5.
Parish councillors have allocated £200 to allow Mr Mallinson to prepare a bid and set up a consultation with residents.
