A Bradford school commemorated World Book Day with the launch of its new library.

Southmere Primary in Great Horton has created the new reading space within an extension and to celebrate its launch, pupils and some staff donned their bedwear following the World Book Day theme to ‘Go Bananas in Pyjamas.’ Also attending the event was Cathy Atkinson from Provident Financial in Bradford, which has contributed £6,000 towards furnishing the library which boasts a finger print identification facility linking borrowers with their books.

A school spokesman said the firm had been sending reading volunteers into the school for two years. The donation, along with funding from the Yorkshire Building Society, had helped them extend and improve their book range.
