An event to promote healthy living for people with a learning disability has been hailed as a success.

About 140 people went along to the one-day event, which was organised and hosted by Bradford People First and opened by the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Dale Smith.

The group, which is run by people with learning disabilities for others with learning disabilities, welcomed 20 stallholders to give out information.

A spokesman said: “The aim of the day was to promote healthy living for people with learning disabilities, professionals and carers.

“We wanted to show that healthy living is about lots of things, like being active, diet and healthcare.

“We also had some sessions and demonstrations where people could try things out for themselves, including hand massage, exercise class, rugby and tai chi.”

Healthy living awards were presented.

The spokesman said: “These were for people living and working in Bradford who have gone an extra mile for people who have a learning disability, or who have overcome ill health.

“The overall award went to John Crowther, who has a learning disability and has worked really hard to overcome ill health and regain his mobility.”
