Bradford MP in plea over landmark sites

An MP has written to a Minister asking him to support the transfer of two landmark city centre sites into Bradford Council ownership.

Bradford East MP, David Ward, (Lib Dem) has written to a Minister within the Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG) to urge him to support the provision of £4.1m of capital funding for the Odeon and Old Tyrls Police Station sites.

The Telegraph & Argus exclusively revealed that the Council is proposing to buy the sites from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) for £1 each plus £4.1million in maintenance and health and safety costs.

At its Investment Committee on Thursday, March 14, the HCA will look at proposals from the Council to buy the sites.

Mr Ward said: “At a time when unemployment is still rising in my constituency, my message to the Minister was clear.

“Given the prime location and historical significance of these sites, this funding will secure much needed regeneration and employment opportunities in the city and further help transform the centre of Bradford into a place we all want to work in and visit. I urge the HCA to look at the details of these proposals.”
