Bingley taxi booking office approved

A proposed taxi booking office in Bingley town centre that attracted objections from neighbouring businesses has been approved by Bradford councillors.

Shipley’s AA Private Hire applied for permission to use an empty unit above a butcher’s shop on the one-way Chapel Lane. The company, which has 40 cars in Shipley, said an increasing number of calls come from Bingley.

Opponents, including representatives from the town’s 5 Rise Shopping Centre, Co-op and Brown’s Cafe, said it would lead to indiscriminate parking on an already busy road and argued the area did not need another private hire business. Another objector was Bingley Taxis.

The applicants said they would only have one member of staff working in the office and that taxis would not park outside the booking office.
