Some of the rubbish that Bradford University Sub Aqua Club found
Century-old ginger beer bottles were among the items found by divers from Bradford University Sub Aqua Club who took part in the world’s largest underwater litter pick on Saturday.
Nine divers from the oldest club of its kind in Britain went to Cumbria to help clear debris and rubbish from Lake Windermere.
They joined more than 300 volunteers in the clean-up.
Rob Higgie, Bradford SAC’s training officer, said: “The water was extremely cold and there was zero visibility so all the litter was found via a touch search.
“Glass ginger beer bottles that were over 100 years old, car tyres and plastic bottles were among many of the items recovered. This in now going to be made into art.”
