The trade union movement in Bradford says it is appalled at continuing high levels of unemployment.

Bradford Trades Union Council has also called for the Government to replace its Work Programme.

Rob Williams, pictured, secretary of a Bradford PCS trade union branch, said: “Unacceptably high levels of unemployment follow from the austerity policies pursued by this Government.”

Mike Quiggin, BTUC secretary, said: “We have been told of examples where a private Work Programme provider claims payment from the Government for finding someone ‘work’ when it turns out that an unemployed person has been pressurised into signing off to become self-employed and the ‘work’ is working from home earning no more than £60 per month.”
