Concert will show off Skipton-built guitars
12:40pm Tuesday 5th March 2013 in News
Classical guitarist Alan Brinley Shaw will play guitars made by an up-and-coming Skipton luthier at a concert in Ilkley.
The Barcelona-based musician will perform in Ilkley, Haworth and Skipton in March, in events organised by classical guitarist and luthier Brett Barrett.
Mr Barrett began making guitars about five years ago, and did not see himself organising concerts for international guitarist, until he received a call from Alan Brinley Shaw, who wanted to fly to the UK to try his guitars.
Finding they had both started with the same guitar teacher, Peter Newsome, they staged a concert in Skipton, with Mr Shaw playing Mr Barrett’s guitars.
Mr Barrett later invited Christina Sandsengen, from Oslo, to perform her first concert in the UK, also playing Mr Barrett’s instruments.
Alan Brinley Shaw will play at St Michael’s Church, Haworth, on March 15, followed by concerts at Holy Trinity Church, Skipton, on March 16, and at All Saints Church, Ilkley, on March 17, which starts at 8pm.
Guitars made by Mr Barrett, who is currently making a guitar for Spanish guitarist Paco Seco, will also be on display at the Ilkley concert.
Admission is £15 for adults, £1O concessions, or £6 for children.
