Call made to take care to stop moorland blazes around Bradford

People are being urged to be “extremely careful” to prevent moorland fires breaking out.

The warning comes after firefighters spent about two hours tackling a moorland blaze near Denholme.

The fire affected about 200 square metres of the moor off Trough Lane.

Two appliances, from Keighley and Illingworth, and a Land Rover wildfire unit, based at Keighley, were called out to the incident at 1.30pm on Sunday.

The cause of the blaze is unknown.

The incident was the latest in a series of grass and moorland fires across West Yorkshire.

Watch commander Paul Turner, of Keighley fire station, said: “We would ask people when they are out and about to be extremely careful and not discard cigarettes or matches and take litter away with you.”
