MP Kris Hopkins tries out cancer website

Keighley MP Kris Hopkins has become a “citizen scientist” to support the fight against cancer.

He and fellow parliamentarians took turns using a new interactive website, Cell SliderTM, which transforms cancer data into a format that can be analysed by the public.

The site – cellslider.net, run by Cancer Research UK – shows real images of tumour samples in the form of a simple game of snap and guides users through a tutorial explaining which cells to analyse and which to ignore.

The charity hopes that by the public becoming “citizen scientists”, more samples will be analysed faster and with increased effectiveness.

Mr Hopkins said: “I urge everyone to spare five minutes to get involved. The program is very easy to use, meaning everyone can play their part in helping to beat cancer from the comfort of their own homes.”
