A new era for Skipton Market started on Friday, when it was officially taken over by the town council.

The market has been the responsibility of Craven District Council for the past ten years. A year ago, it became the joint responsibility of both councils and, on Friday, it became the sole responsibility of the town council.

A new ten-year lease was signed by the holder of the market charter, the Lord of the Honour of Skipton Castle, Sebastian Fattorini, and Skipton Mayor, Councillor Wendy Clark.
