Weekend sees Bradford battle of the brass bands

Yorkshire’s leading brass bands will be taking part in the regional qualifying of the National Brass Band Championships at St George’s Hall, Bradford, today and tomorrow.

The bands include Brighouse and Rastrick which was crowned Yorkshire Champions in both 2010 and 2011 and went on to win the coveted National Champions crown at the Royal Albert Hall in both years but came second at both the area qualifier and London final last year.

The test piece, which all of the bands have to play, is Harmony Music by Philip Sparke which is described as a technically challenging but very musical and exciting composition which was originally written for the National Championships Finals in 1987.
