A Bradford campaigner has been nominated for a national award for her work to combat climate change.
Tehseen Mirza – a young activist with children’s charity Plan UK – is in the running to be named ‘Most Inspirational Young Person’ at the Climate Week Awards on Monday.
“I was in a state of shock when I heard I had been nominated as it's a massive achievement,” the 21-year-old said.
She is from Undercliffe and is a student at Manchester Metropolitan University.
”I’ve been working with young people across the UK and around the world for several years now, trying to make the planet greener.”
Tehseen was first awarded a youth fellowship at Plan UK which allowed her to work with young representatives across Europe and Africa on climate change.
She then went on to found the UK Youth Climate Network and the ‘One Step’ campaign, which encouraged more than 2000 young people to make one ‘green’ change to their lives.
“Tehseen has been an inspirational part of the Make the Link – Climate exChange project at Plan UK and we are really proud that she has been nominated for this award,” Tanya Barron, Chief Executive at Plan UK, said.
“It's absolutely vital that young people are part of the solution to one of the biggest challenges our planet faces: climate change.”
Climate Week runs from March 4-10 and features thousands of activities across the UK.
