130 cars seized by police in crime crackdown face the crusher

More than 100 cars, some high performance or luxury models, could be crushed after being seized from criminals by police.

The vehicles, including Audis and other high specification models, are suspected to be ‘pool’ cars which are passed between criminal gangs, police said last night.

They have been impounded as part of Operation Sabredale, a blitz against firearms and drugs, which started last year in the city.

In the latest two-week blitz in early February, more than 130 vehicles were confiscated when they were found to be unregistered, uninsured, or without tax or MoTs.

In addition, the raids resulted in 100 arrests as well as the seizure of 12 imitation guns and suspected drugs to a value of £1.3 million.

Police have warned that vehicles which are not later proved to be legally registered could end up on the scrap heap.

Bradford district Chief Inspector Dan Greenwood said that was an important tactic to disrupt the activity of offenders who use the ‘pool’ cars.

“One vehicle can potentially be used by a number of different individuals to commit crime within the district,” said Chief Insp Greenwood.

Drugs and firearms offences for instance are often connected with the use of such vehicles.

“As they are unregistered, untaxed or uninsured, it can also be difficult to trace an owner. They are not only used as a tool in the commission of serious crime, but also present a significant risk to other road users.

“Alongside partners in the Driver Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) and Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA), we seized dozens of illegally driven vehicles during the two weeks of Operation Sabredale.

“Those that remain unclaimed could potentially be crushed.”

Operation Sabredale has been singled out for praise by West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Mark Burns-Williamson.

“The issue of uninsured and untaxed vehicles within the district has been raised with me on various occasions and I fully support the local police acting with other relevant agencies to address the problem in this way,” he said.

Bradford East MP David Ward said: “We all want to see crime rates fall in our community and I want to acknowledge the success of Operation Sabredale which has been a key tool in helping to reduce the number of serious offences committed in Bradford – the police have been going a great job in this area.

“Many people in Bradford face high insurance premiums and uninsured vehicles are a key factor in pushing up the price of car insurance in Bradford and so this crackdown will also contribute to my campaign to secure more affordable car insurance for people living in Bradford.”

Chief Insp Greenwood added: “If anyone has information about vehicles used in their community as ‘pool’ cars among criminals, I would ask that they get in touch on the non emergency number 101.

“Help us identify those who are using them and give us the location or details of the vehicle. Remember you call anonymously and in absolute confidence via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Why destroy them all?
There must be some that are able to be used by the police and various agency's instead of the taxpayer buying vehicles all the time. Some of them are reported as luxury cars and these should be either used or checked over and sent to auction to again raise money.

crushing is more like a public guillotining.

Maybe those whose cars were seized from should be forced to press the crush button with public attendance to cheer the demise one more tool of the drug barons and other deceitful, harmful members of society? LOL.

Agree those cars that have real value should be re registered with different plates etc and sold off at auction to raise some cash.

I was on randall well street and two black high performance cars were running round this area at speed. They had no respect for anyone or anything as long as they were having their fun. I can imagine the cars seized would have been driven Just as stupidly. so Im guessing they would need a lot of work, best crushed in that case

You really expect a few crushed uninsured cars to make a difference to premiums?

Come back down to the real world. Insurance companies themselves should wear black and white striped jumpers.

Insurance and car insurance especially actually loses the companies concerned money and always has so no they arent robbing you only to the point that the insurance is a legal requirement.

I agree with earlier comments as to why dont the police just auction these vehicles off and either use the funds to offset against any increases in taxes or give the money to charity at least

Are you for real? 130 cars in 2 weeks is 10 per day. What do you expect to happen when the police find them? Call a Genie and make it disappear before moving onto the next one? Or perhaps issue a ticket and leave it on the screen, in which case you could ridicule them for not taking the vehicles and making it a pointless exercise. How many times have you called Crimestoppers to help the police out? No, didnt think so!

Quite agree, they could be used by public services such as police, paramedics and even as civic vehicles for Dave and his cronies.

oh really, and how does a VW Scorrico qualify as a car for disabled people, i know there are genuine disabled people out there and they will continue to get this benefit, but most will stop as soon as PIP comes in APRIL 2013, but most families claim disability just to get a free mobility car.
secondly, i NEVER made a link between disability and drug dealing, not sure where you got that from?

Do not dismiss things without first studying and understanding what I am saying.

Do you know what is the law of the land?

Do you know what common law is?

Common law is the law of the land...other "laws" are Acts or Statutes. For the latter to apply to you one needs to consent to it.

Most legally qualified sheep do not understand these concepts as they rea and repeat to obtain their legal qualifications.

I can't help thinking that the police don't support any changes in the law to take trade away from criminals because it is preferable to them to let the criminals carry on with business as usual until such time as the build up a pot of assests that can then be siezed and flaunted in the press as some kind of success story. These drug dealers can only make the money they do because the drug users know who they are and how to get in contact with them, so why don't the police? The fact that so many cars have been siezed in Bradford just illustrates the extent of their failure to address the issues.

Insurance and insurance companies operate a cartel of fixed premiums where they force people to pay huge, unjustified premiums to be able to travel privately around the land. For commerce or business purposes one requires insurance, however for private travel one doesn't require insurance and the police cannot enforce the will of a company over a human being living under common law.
LOL ....Take it you dont have insurance then and are willing to defend not having any on the basis of the above

Laughable
Do not dismiss things without first studying and understanding what I am saying.

I am legally qualified, pay my taxes and relative insurances. Not your average Bradfordian as I am not one to not ask questions and blindly follow the leaders.

Do you know what is the law of the land?

Do you know what common law is?

I Understand common law, Do you?

Common law is the law of the land...other "laws" are Acts or Statutes. For the latter to apply to you one needs to consent to it.

Most legally qualified sheep do not understand these concepts as they rea and repeat to obtain their legal qualifications.

If this doesn't make sense to your dismissive brains then I suggest you have look at the link below.

Well if you are so highly clued up about these matters why bother paying insurance if you dont have to?

If what you state is true and you are sure it has legal standing you could earn a fortune defending insurance convictions in court.

If by weedies you mean cannabis smokers then I'm one. You may remember agreeing with me earlier when I was arguing for the law to be changed to take the trade out of the hands of criminals. I am not a criminal and don't agree with being portrayed as one. I am merely someone who feels a beneficial medical benefit, superiour to the prescription medication and with far less side effects, from a plant that has been used by mankind for Millenia with little problem until it came into competition with other industries. The law has nothing to do with health concerns as there are far worse things out there that are perfectly legal. The problem is purely one of prohibition just as it was for alcohol in Al Capone's day. We couldn't put a worse, more damaging policy in place if we tried but it makes lawyers, the police, prison services, probation services ect a lot of work and boy do they want to keep those jobs. Cannabis has no real monetary value as it's as easy to grow as tomatoes, the only thing giving it the headline grabbing values that the police pull out of their backsides when busting someone is it's legal status.

So you smoke the weedie

Is cannabis harmful?

Answer:

Yes. It deteriorates your mind. You may lose your long term memory, and like all things that you smoke it isn't that great for your lungs either.
Cannabis contains 20 times more ammonia, and five times more hydrogen cyanide and nitrous oxides than tobacco smoke. It also may have an effect of preventing cancer from spreading for a time, as it kills cells.( This is all the result of tests done by the Canadian government) Like the ones you need for your longterm memory, but also the cancer infected cells in your lungs. The only downside is that you have to face the fact that the chance for a regular smoker of cannabis to get lung cancer is more likely. The search results say that this is due to the fact that they hold the smoke in longer, and that there is more smoke. They say marijuana uses tend to develop lung cancer up to 24 years before the average smoker. Of course the results could change depending on the amount you smoke versus that of a regular smoker. The point I am trying to make is that yes there are people out there like parentsagainstmariju
ana who will give you false facts but in short YES it is bad for your health. Just because it may or may not be as bad a cigarettes doesn't mean it's not bad. Marijuana is a psychoactive. It alters the way you perceive things.

I never made the claim that it was perfectly safe as nothing ever is. I am aware that if I eat too many mcdonald's it will have a detrimental effect on my health, should they be illegal or should the choice of whether or not to eat their crap be mine? I could show you countless independent studies that contradict a lot of what the Canadian Government studies found however for all the downsides they have identified I believe they have still legalised it. If I die before I need my bum wiping for me in a nursing home so be it.

100%!

However I would not recommend smoking it, much better to cook with it, it is after all an herb, nevertheless it’s still a psychoactive after cooking, and some would argue a stronger one. Considerably more than if smoked.

Many many people are uninsured as they find it cheaper to risk the penalty of getting caught than to pay in the first place. The other thing that is happening is people are using addresses in Harrogate and Surrey etc to get cheaper insurance. So half are not insured and the half have used the wrong address. I just pray i never bump into a car anywhere and definately not bradford. My brother just had a crash and the 22 year old who hit his car wasnt insured on his Dads 15k car. This is true. Police should be terrifying and there shouldnt be as much recourse to them using "reasonable" force whenever they want.

Some of the coppers you see now are barely out of using spot cream and have the physical presence of Julian Clary. Yet a lot of their older colleagues barely look like they can walk let alone chase after someone.

Not so simple - specific police powers are set out under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984, which is an Act of Parliament, not common law. Their common law powers are the same as yours and mine - right to defend property, prevent a breach of the peace etc, but police specific powers are contained in the above Act. Also, we are not their bosses - they hold an office of constable, meaning they are crown servants and not employees. Their duty to serve is first and foremost to the Queen, and the inference from Sir Robert Peel's founding principles that the police are simply members of the community who are paid to undertake the duties bound on all of us.

In summary - the problems with Bradford are not down to the police alone but each and every one of us for allowing things to get this bad.

Errm, explain. CEAct 84 outlines police powers. What outlined police powers prior to that.

Errm, what is the oath sworn by Police and judges, including the Queen? It is to swear and protect us under Common law...not statute law.

You see UK is a company, We the people are the common people who are a party to the unwritten and implied parts of the constitution.

The people, human beings have priority over legal entities such as companies. Companies pass laws for its employees...I'm no employee of the UK as a citizen...I'm a freeman living on the land, I do not need permission to live on this land, I do not need a passport to travel, not having one contravenes my freedom to travel/passage under the UN human rights charter.

You still do not understand what common law is! What us wrong with you man. Ask any lawyer, any judge and any police constable to tell you whatthe common law is. Ask them to remind you what type of law rules over the land known as England...common law. Ask them what type of law rules over the corporation known as the UK and you will be suprised.

It appears you have limited your ability to think. You only appear to follow what the leal proffesion or institutions tell you in their books and propagnda.

Have a look at the actual legal status of each force...you will find it is setup and trades as a limited company.

Have a look at the UK as a whole and you will note that all legal, public institutions are setup as limited companies.

Since when do voters vote for limited companies.

Have a look at the UK and you will see it is a company, just like the City of London...all this came about after the fire of London when ownership was disputed and many rightful owners who'd died had their land confiscated by the limited government.

You need to understand that the constitution does not allow for companies to rule us!

A company is a legal entity. Humans are flesh and blood living souls...not legal companies that can be ruled by legal entities aka companies.

You are missing the point entirely. Try reading and understanding what the Magna Carta, Bill of Rights , our written and unwritten Constituiton really is.....and how the companies and institutions using their influence have manipulated and ignored our fundamental rights.

Of course you won't read and will continue to assume things. Good luck sheep.
