A new charity has signed up more than 80 children on a Bradford estate who are now receiving a free book every month.
Canterbury Imagine was launched in September with the aim of ensuring that within five years, every under-five on the Canterbury estate is receiving 12 free books a year. It has now become a registered charity and hopes to register its 100th baby within the next month.
The youngsters build up their own library of quality books. The scheme aims to improve literacy and encourage parent-child bonding.
The charity is holding a celebration party at Canterbury Children’s Centre on Friday, March 15, with Canterbury parents invited to register babies born in 2012 for free books.
