Tea and coffee drinkers helped make the Civic Big Brew a success by raising hundreds of pounds for charity.

The event, hosted by Lady Mayoress of Bradford, Margaret Smith, at Bradford City Hall raised £1,800 for Cancer Support Bradford & Airedale.

The fundraising day heralded the start of the charity’s month-long Big Brew campaign which begins today.

Hundreds of people attended, the cafe and stalls were busy all day, and many guests indulged in a mini beauty treatment, courtesy of Bradford College, and children were treated to face painting. A clutch of Bradford Bulls players also attended the event.

Linda Enderby, community fundraiser, said: “It really was a team effort. The Lady Mayoress, all volunteers, stall holders, local businesses, council staff, Bradford College and Bradford Bulls all worked together to make it such a great day.”

Cancer Support Bradford & Airedale has supported people affected by cancer for the last 25 years. The whole community is invited to support its Silver Jubilee Campaign by holding an event during Big Brew month until March 31. Fundraising packs are available at bradfordcancersupport.org.uk.
