Hundreds of school children will get the chance to go down in history by entering an annual painting competition.

Last year, members of the Ilkley Carnival Committee had to pick a winner from more than 300 entries in the carnival’s School Painting Competition and are hoping for even more pictures to choose from this time.

Like the carnival, the theme of this year’s competition, sponsored by Bettys in Ilkley, is British history and the overall winner will get their name in lights and see their picture featured on the front cover of the programme for the event on Monday, May 6.

The lucky winner will also receive a goody bag from Bettys.

Letters have been sent to eight schools across Ilkley with details about the competition, which has three categories – for pupils in Years one and two, three and four and five and six – and is open until Monday, March 18.
