Forget the Big Apple, it was all about the big game for one Bradford City fan who ditched a possible trip to New York in favour of a day out at Wembley.
Liam Mackin, 18, was one of the thousands of jubilant fans in London on Sunday to see the Bantams take on Swansea.
The teenager’s trip, which included two nights in a London hotel, comedy show tickets and taxis, was organised by the Starlight charity which grants wishes for seriously ill youngsters.
Liam, who is deaf-blind, had an original wish to travel to New York, but changed his mind once Bradford got through to the Capital One Cup final.
He said: “It was absolutely brilliant. Even when we were losing, there was still a really good atmosphere.
“Lots of credit should got to the Bradford fans. They kept going right to the end.
“The charity, everything they did for us, we just couldn’t have done it without them. They made it such an enjoyable experience and I just want to thank them.”
