Lollipop lady Betty Timbrell helps Eldwick Primary School pupils across the road
When most people reach retirement age, they look forward to taking it easy.
Not 80-year-old Betty Timbrell, who turns out in all weathers to see children safely across the road on their way to school. Mrs Timbrell began working as a lollipop lady at Eldwick Primary School, in Bingley, 20 years ago after retiring as a school cook.
She said: “I said I would take the job on for two years and I’m still here. I love doing it. For one thing, it’s lovely to see the children. They make such a lot of fuss over me, which makes me feel I want to do it more. I will keep going as long as I have my health.”
To mark the anniversary, the school held a presentation, with the children giving Mrs Timbrell handmade presents and cards.
