Possibility of parade and reception must wait until end of season for Bradford City heroes

Fans cheer City on at Wembley
Players and officials from Bradford City could be given an open top bus tour of the city and a civic reception to mark their historic cup run - but not until the end of the season.
Last night, as high-profile figures from across the district paid tribute to the Bantams and their travelling army of supporters, it emerged that club officials are keen that events to mark City’s cup final appearance should not to get in the way of the quest for promotion.
Speaking during his journey back to Bradford last night, the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Dale Smith, said he was “naturally disappointed” with the result, but said the fans “could not have done more.”
He said: “It was a sea of claret and amber. The cheering and encouragement was astonishing.”
Asked about the prospect of a civic reception, Coun Smith said: “They have two important league matches coming up this week and the club want to concentrate on that. At the end of the season, we’ll look to recognise their achievement and I’m sure there’ll be a civic reception.”
Asked if that would include an open top bus, he said: “It’s a good idea. The City will expect nothing less.
“I would expect an open-top bus parade would be a fitting way to mark their incredible achievements. We’re just waiting for the season to end, hopefully on a high, and for the sunshine to come and we’ll start waving those flags again.”
Following the final whistle, the leader of Bradford Council, Councillor Dave Green, was among the first to express his pride in the Bantams.
He said: “I’m proud of the team, proud of the fans, proud of the city. Well done to all involved.”
His comments were echoed by Bradford East MP David Ward, who said the trip to Wembley had been a “great experience” for City’s fans.
He added: “Hats off to the T&A - great coverage over last couple of months and superb today.”
Councillor Vanda Greenwood (Lab, Windhill and Wrose) said she was impressed by the way the “City fans (were) singing until the end.”
Councillor Jan Smithies (Lab, Keighley West) pointed to the “spirit of Bradford” as the Bantams fans remained on their feet singing even though the team was several goals down.
Television presenter and former England player Gary Lineker said: “As for Bradford, they've brightened this season immensely and their fans were superb. Be rightfully proud!”
Speaking last night, Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “56 stars will be shining just that bit brighter tonight. Amazing support. Well done Bradford City. Yorkshire is proud of you tonight.”

I'm a Bull, not a City Gent, but I would like to thank the team and club for all they've done for Bradford over the past few months; I can think of no better way to do this, as someone who's not a football fan, than an open top bus and civic reception. I'll be there at the end of the season to sing and cheer and applaud, and I'd expect many of my fellow rugby leaguers, those of other sports and teams, and those of none, to turn up in their droves.
Well done, City - you made us all very proud and very thankful.

The 23k who can't get down Valley Parade but can make Wembley, great effort.
Parky has secured the future of this club for many years but I guess that won't matter for the daytrippers who won't be coming back.

I think I speak for most when I say we don't want an open top bus parade.
Our memories and celebration for this cup run were done yesterday on a day we will never forget regardless of the score.
I'd be much happier if the people fallowing us during this time got themseleves down to Valley Parade this Wednesday.
Also why plug your own coverage, some of it was embarrassing like the story about the Second West and the obvious rubbish about stubs being sold for £2k.
Walking up Wembley way in a major cup final was a dream I never thought I would see, but we are still placed with a chance to get out of this league so lets back the lads on Wednesday.

Yes we the fan s were fantastic and in my opinion, I thought the occasion was too big for the players and they were slightly overwhelmed. Swansea for one outclassed us in every department and don't forget, upto the final, we had already played 48 games. That is more than any of the 92 clubs. There are still 13 or 15 more to play. You say you won' be at any reception? GOOD stay away.
i wont be at no parade after a performance like that.

The whole game became about nothing else but the fire.
Swansea walked on to the pitch to win silverwear and from the first kick the weight upon the Players backs of the fire tragedy overwhelmed them.
The fire was 28 years ago, nothing can change what happens, but it needs to be remembered away from important games and let the team get on with winning the trophy, which would have been the greatest tribute.
Please next time, dont pile it high upon the players backs, let them play football with unweighed shirts.

Equally I cannot see Parkinson still being at City at the end of the season. a number of players may also not be there.
I found some of the TV coverage in the build-up to yesterday to be quite nauseating - particularly the notion that somehow Bradford's great racial divide had been bridged by football.
Anyone who lives in Bradford knows that is clearly not the case or rather a case of wishful thinking.
City were completely outplayed yesterday by a much better side and while there was no great shame in that and much to commend the fans we should not get lost in the hyperbole.

Let's not sour the aftermath any further than the result did. Bradford people have a lot to be proud of today, the way they conducted themselves in London yesterday proved to the world we are not some dumping ground backwater and we have passionate people who put their hearts and souls into their efforts.
Time those who make decisions realised and utilised this. Times may have changed but Bradford has it's fair share of grafters and givers.

Nathan Doyle was in a full page interview in the London Evening Standard on Friday and he said one of the great things about our team is that the lads like each other. Brilliant stuff and great advert for Bradford.
We played possible the third or fourth best team in the country at the moment. They beat Liverpool away and Chelsea over two legs, they hammered Arsenal at the Emirates and their manager is tipped to go to Real Madrid or Barcelona. Possibly only the two Manchester teams would have been a tougher task.
After Matt Duke's bad luck, it could theoretically have been double figures.
The whole journey had been massively positive and everyone invovled should be thanked. Fantastic.
Let's hope they can get down to earth and kick on in a much less polite way in the league now. The team needs some fire in their bellies and a new lease of life.

not quite real madrid but swansea are in the top 3 'passing sides' in the country ...only faltering Arsenal stick truly to the passing / possession / lateral game...but Swansea can do possession football better at the moment in all probability ..
hence why laudrop will be on the radar of big clubs now ..
city should announce the reception is at vp on wed night ... £5 quid on the gate for none st's...
free for kids if they bring their wembley flags....
what a great day out at Wembley ....

Seems your pathetic football team put in about as much effort as your c**p rugby team did.
I can really see the council of your dying city celebrating coming second in a two horse race, just about sums bradford up.
Losers
The league cup is a 92 horse race and Bradford came second. That's an achievement, it would be the equivalent of someone like Batley getting to the challenge cup final.

They weren't just turning up on Sunday, they were determined to win it and the fact that we had beaten 3 prem teams on the way there made their lauded manager take note and plan accordingly.
We could have fielded a team of all our best players from the past and still have ended up with a 5-0 loss

No mention of the fact Swansea rested 5 players last weekend and got hammered 5-0 by a team of peers. I got the feeling before the game and in the week leading up to it that BCFC were just happy to be there and didn't believe they could win. Parkinson's tactics were wrong and they needed an attacking threat and 442. To go 88 minutes without a shot at goal is not what i expected. Swansea are good but I felt Bradford in the first half should have been bolder. Even so a great achievement to get there in the first place.

Not so long ago Bradford City was calling on everyone to rally round and help the club in it's hour of need we wanted people from everywhere to come to benefit matches and such to help fund the clubs survival now we hear so called fans calling people for going to Wembley on a cold winter day. Just listen to yourselves we have drawn in much needed funds that will safe guard our club for many years to come. When we finish the season we need to reward the players what ever happens as we owe them a great deal for they have done more to further this clubs progress than any players in recent years. Those fans who went to Wembley please come back not all Bradford City fans are like the Ludites we have on here.
Their bodies being at Wembley was more from a personal, selfish standpoint than for any benefit to City. Tonight's match will prove this. Little or no interest in the lifeblood, just what the club can do for them.
If trying to make an argument for the stay away fans do it tomorrow after tonights D&R( that's Dagenham and Redbridge for the uninitiated) match.
We'll have hard and fast figures to go on then.
PS, I am also parting with my second payment for next seasons ST, on top of just having my wife's 40th to shell out for and the Wembley weekend, times are as tough for me as they are others, I just put my money where my substantial mouth is. Still time to get your bargian £200 2013/14 ticket guys and gals, I expect to see you falling over each other.

It goes back to the first time we were in trouble not just now and we didn't have the crowds then that we have now so I think that answers your own statement. Does it matter that these fans have never been to a game? This Wembley and cup fever has put this club on the best financial footing it has been in as long as I can remember. I think you should consider changing you name to Victor Meldrew. I don't believe it some B***ard has nick my seat. I know theres another one next to it but that is mine!!!
