A brewery has beaten off world-wide competition to win a gold prize for an ale it has been producing for less than four months.

Saltaire Brewery has added another International Brewing Awards Gold Medal to its haul of more than 50 honours, with its first kegged ale, the four per cent Saltaire Gold, judged the world’s best keg ale under 4.4 per cent ABV.

Head brewer Tony Gartland said: “We designed Saltaire Gold for pubs, restaurants and bars that can’t offer the traditional cask ales that we’re best known for. While we’re very pleased with its flavour, which has also proved popular with customers, I really didn’t expect us to win a top international award.

“It’s testament to our commitment to brew top quality, tasty, award-winning beer in cask, keg and bottle.”

The bi-annual International Brewing Awards, which took three days to judge, attracted more than 1,000 entries.
