Warning to criminals after three knife and gun incidents in a single day
Police have warned they will act quickly to take weapons off the streets of Bradford after dealing with three separate knife and gun incidents in one day.
Officers stormed a house in Barkerend after a member of the public told officers he had seen a man with a handgun in Browning Street.
Police investigated and raided a house. During a search of the property, they found a gas-powered air pistol and ball bearing ammunition. A 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and was later released on police bail, pending further enquiries.
On the same day, Wednesday, police seized a shotgun from a loft in Bankfoot, following reports of a domestic incident. Officers conducting routine enquries discovered the gun, hidden in a loft in Draughton Grove.
A 21-year-old man has appeared before Bradford Magistrates’ Court, charged with possession of a shotgun, and will next appear in court on Friday.
Bradford district Chief Inspector Dan Greenwood said: “This is another example of our efforts to target and remove potentially lethal weapons from our communities.
“Officers conducting routine enquiries seized a gun which was concealed in a loft space. We are continuing to make a real impact, generating more support from residents day by day.
“This was underlined by the recent Operation Sabredale which saw dozens of guns, over a million pounds in suspected drugs seized and thousands in cash seized.
“We want to ensure that the people who live, work and visit our district remain safe and we will do all we can to achieve this.
“If you have any information about firearms in your neighbourhood let us know immediately and we will act.
“You can call the non emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.”
Also on Wednesday, police officers on patrol recovered a pocket-sized flick knife.
One man was arrested and charged with possession of an offensive weapon.
