Van driver fined over corner-cut collision

A white van driver cut a corner and ploughed into a vehicle coming in the opposite direction, magistrates heard yesterday.

The crash tore off a front wheel and caused the brakes to fail. A dislodged wheel then spun on down the road to hit an on-coming car at Kilnsey, near Skipton, on the B6160 on July 30, last year, the court in Skipton was told.

The Ford Transit van driver, Mark Binns, 38, of St Martin’s View, Brighouse, who pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention, was fined £150, ordered to pay £45 court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
