Council to fund pupils’ gym idea

An ‘Olympics legacy’ outdoor gym will be created in Otley – thanks to the letter-writing skills of schoolchildren.

The idea, put forward by Year 6 pupils at All Saints CE Primary School, proved to be the most popular of nine projects that were in line for Town Council funding.

The Council had asked for nominations for schemes that would benefit the community, and then put nine shortlisted projects to a public ballot.

The Otley Outdoor gym – which would leave residents, in the words of its young proponents, with “no excuse not to get fit” – has come top and will now be backed by £5,000.
