Council in court after flagpole collapse probe

An incident in Otley that saw a flagpole collapse and seriously injured a toddler will land Leeds City Council in court next month.

Two-year-old River Webster had to be rushed to hospital after a flagpole at Otley War Memorial in Bondgate collapsed in March last year. The wooden pole fractured the girl’s skull and broke her ankle, and River, now three, still needs regular medical check-ups.

Following an investigation into the incident, the HSE has decided to prosecute the Council, and representatives have been summoned to appear in court next month.
