Bradford Council has revealed that it pays 340 of its employees a wage of £50,000 a year or more, with 101 of these working directly for the authority, while the remaining 239 work in schools.

This is out of total of 18,324 employees, which equates to 1.9 per cent of staff.

It comes as the TaxPayers’ Alliance today revealed details of what town hall middle managers are paid across the country.

Its report states that the Council had 499 staff on £50,000 or more in 2011/12, which was a reduction of 28 on the previous year.

Compared to the latest data confirmed to the Telegraph & Argus by the Council, there has now been a drop of 159 employees paid £50,000 or more which follows various restructuring programmes.

Tony Reeves, chief executive of the Council, said: “A review and restructure of senior management arrangements for the Council in 2010 achieved £1 million of annual savings. A subsequent review of management at all levels across the Council delivered an additional annual saving of £9m.”
