Bradford Council leader warns of more cuts

The leader of Bradford Council has warned that the authority is expecting a further £80 million in cuts over the next three years.

Councillor David Green spoke about how they would need to take a further £82 million out of the budget on top of the £72 million that has been stripped out in the past two financial years.

It came during a discussion of the Council’s latest figures for this financial year, which forecast an underspend of £5.2 million at the third quarter point.

This was due to some additional, unplanned income, together with some in-year savings which were ahead of plan, executive members were told.

Coun Green added: “While it seems like a lot of money, when you look at it as a percentage and take into account the unforseen income that we have received late in the year, I do think it shows that we have been keeping a tight rein on the budget.”
