Investigation into Oakworth house blaze

Fire investigators are trying to find out what caused a blaze at a semi-detached home yesterday morning.

Firefighters from Keighley and Haworth were called out to Harewood Crescent, Oakworth, at 2am.

Keighley watch commander Paul Turner said: “On arrival there was very dark smoke coming out of every window.”

He said two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus went in to the two-storey building to fight the fire, while another two went in to search for possible casualties.

He said: “Fortunately she wasn’t in, the lady owner, she was out elsewhere. We found out from the neighbours she had stopped at a friend’s house.

“The whole ground floor is smoke and fire damaged.”

He said firefighters were now helping the police and fire investigators find out what had caused the blaze.
