Hundreds of youngsters battling cancer became world record holders yesterday, thanks to a Bradford children’s charity.
Little Heroes put together the longest-ever string of beads – a mammoth 5.386 miles long – with the help of 450 children, 368 of whom are suffering with cancer.
It was laid out in the ballroom at the Cedar Court Hotel in Bradford.
Charity founder Colin Nesbitt, who had been planning the record attempt since October, said: “It is brilliant. What is nice is that we have made all these children into world record holders. It is awesome to be honest.”
“Lots of hard work has gone into it and it’s been a long day for the kids, but it has been worthwhile. We have given kids with cancer something to smile about.”
The record in metres is 8,664, smashing the previous best of 6,400m – or about four miles.
